Serco to Cooperate with Strömma Tourism & Maritime in Stockholm

Serco has signed a cooperation agreement with Strömma Tourism & Maritime to make a joint bid to manage and operate the ferry services in Stockholm’s archipelago and harbour. The two companies are forming a joint venture company that will tender for the services and, if successful, will subsequently manage and operate the service from April 2014.

The services include the Waxholmsbolaget and Djurgårdsfärjan ferries which are under council-ownership. Tenders to manage and operate the services will be submitted in March this year.

Commenting on the agreement, Jan Larsén, CEO of Strömma, said, “With a combination of Strömma’s skills and local experience to deploy and develop services in tourism in the Nordic region and Serco’s expertise in delivering public services to customers around the world, we think that we can present a winning formula for the Stockholm County Council and the residents of the archipelago.”

Richard Williams, Managing Director of Serco Local Direct and Transport added, “We are excited about our partnership with Strömma. Serco has extensive experience in managing and operating transport services for public sector clients in a number of countries including the Northern Isles Ferry Services in Scotland, the Docklands Light Railway in London and the Dubai Metro.
