The vessels were reportedly contracted as part of the shipping company’s agreements with two financial leasing houses Bocomm Leasing and Huachen Financial Leasing.

Ordered from China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, the new units would be owned by the financial leasing houses and leased to Shandong Shipping.

The units would be deployed to transport 150 million tonnes of coal and other commodities for German energy company RWE Group over a 10-year charter period.

Although the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, reports suggest that the Capesize contract is worth around USD 1.9 billion.
