SHI to Construct LNG Carriers for Nigeria’s Bonny Gas Transport22

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Thursday that the company has entered into a shipbuilding contract with Nigeria’s Bonny Gas Transport for the construction of four LNG carriers.The contract is estimated to be worth around $892 million.

The delivery of the vessels to Bonny Gas Transport, the shipping unit of Nigeria LNG, is scheduled to start in 2015.

Samsung Heavy Industries, established in 1974, is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world and one of the “Big Three” shipbuilders of South Korea. In 2011, SHI become the first Korean shipbuilder to develop a cargo hold for LNG Carriers, a key LNG Carrier facility. The company has also pioneered the development of innovative new ships like LNG-FSRU, which enables the vaporization and storage of LNG by importers.
