South Korea: HHI Lands Order for Pure Car Carriers

HHI Lands Order for Pure Car Carriers

The world’s largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has secured a contract to build up to four pure car carriers for Eukor Car Carriers.

According to SeatradeAsia, Korea based Eukor Car Carriers has placed an order for two 6,600-ceu carriers plus an option for two more with the Korean shipyard. The price of the newbuildings is estimated at around USD 67 mln each. Delivery of the carriers is scheduled for the second half of 2013.

Analysts are expecting more orders for pure car carrier newbuildings as the order backlog in the sector currently stands at just 6% of the total fleet.
