Spain: Huelva LNG Terminal Celebrates 25th Anniversary

On June 14th, the Huelva regasification plant celebrated 25 years since it began to operate. This terminal, located at the mouth of the rivers Tinto and Odiel, began its construction in 1985, and it was put into operation on 14 June 1988 with the tanker “Isabella”, that unloaded LNG from Algeria.

The plant, that at the beginning had a 60,000 m3 tank, now has five tanks, with a storage capacity of 619,500 m3. With the gradual increase in LNG storage capacity there has also been an increase in its natural gas emission capacity, reaching 1,350,000 m3(n)/h.

The following services are offered at Huelva Regasification Plant:

• LNG Storage and Regasification
• Ships Unloading: For ships with a capacity of less than 100,000 m3 of LNG, the unloading rate is between 6,000 and 9,000 m3/h (depending on the ship). For ships bigger than 100,000 m3 of LNG, the unloading rate is 12,000 m3/h.
• Ships Loading, Cooling Down and Gassing-Up: Ships between 29,500 and 173,400 m3 of capacity can load LNG at this plant.
• LNG Trucks Loading: The LNG truck loading ratio is 15 GWh/day, approximately 50 trucks per day.

In these years of activity 1,556 ships have been downloaded and 173,000 LNG trucks and 189 ships have been loaded. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Enagás organized an internal event with the plant’s employees, both current and those who have worked at some point in the last 25 years at the plant, chaired by Juan Demetrio del Olmo, Plant Manager, and Jesus Gutierrez, Production Manager at Enagas Transporte.
