SPE reveals Offshore Achievement Awards finalists for 2017

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has revealed a list of finalists for Offshore Achievement Awards Finalists for 2017.

SPE said on Friday that more than 500 industry professionals are expected to attend the awards ceremony, taking place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday, March 23.

The Awards, hosted by SPE Aberdeen and sponsored by TAQA, recognize some of the industry’s most innovative technology developments as well as talented individuals and large and small company performance.

Ian Phillips, chairman of SPE Aberdeen and CEO of the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre, said:  “The sheer quality and variety of entries we have received this year reflects everything that is great about our industry, particularly our ability to adapt to a volatile economic environment.

“I would like to congratulate all those who have been shortlisted for the 2017 awards, and I look forward to celebrating the winners at the ceremony in March.”

Donald Taylor, acting managing director for TAQA Europe, said: “The quality of the entries, particularly those shortlisted, demonstrates how much the industry is still driving forward, finding innovative solutions and efficiencies against a persistently challenging background.”

The 2017 Offshore Achievement Awards will be given in 12 categories. The Innovator award (sponsored by OGIC) finalists are Delphian Ballistics, Enpro Subsea, M-FLOW Technologies.

Exnics, M-FLOW Technologies, and PlanSea Ltd were chosen as finalists for the Emerging Technology award (sponsored by Nexen).

Cape plc, Cyberhawk Innovations, RigDeluge are contenders for the Safety Innovations award (sponsored by Offshore Europe Partnership).

Environmental Innovation award finalists are BP, Exnics, and TWMA while the finalists of the Export Achievement award are Churchill Drilling Tools, Cyberhawk Innovations, and JDR Cable Systems Ltd.

Best Collaboration award will be contested between Decom North Sea, Maersk Oil/Amec Foster Wheeler/Bilfinger Salamis, and Wood Group.

Outstanding Skills Development Programme award (sponsored by Heriot-Watt University) has only two finalists, namely, Fabricom Offshore Services and TAQA.

Young Professional award (sponsored by BP) has six professionals in contention for the award, and the number will be narrowed to three after a filmed interview session with a panel of judges. The three finalists will be chosen between Marianne McKevitt from BP, Richard Eckersley from Nexen Petroleum UK, Mandy Johnstone from N-Sea, Sam Lisney from Petrofac, Richard Turner from RS Clare & Company, and Natalie Jackson from Shell UK. The winner will be announced on the night of the awards.

The Above and Beyond category will recognize the workplace contribution made by an employee, regardless of their role or the size of the organization, which has brought significant improvements to their workplace, the wider industry or community. The four finalists are Mandy Marriner of JDR Cable Systems, Bob Banks from Petrofac, Sam Lisney also from Petrofac, and Sharon Robertson from Wood Group.

Great Small Company award (sponsored by Wood Group PSN) will go to either Churchill Drilling Tools, Enpro Subsea or Step Change Engineering while the Great Large Company award finalists are Aker Solutions, JDR Cable Systems Ltd, and Wood Group.

The winner of the Significant Contribution award (sponsored by Aker Solutions) will be announced at the ceremony.
