Spotted: Port of Montreal Hosts First Vessel in 2016

The Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Vigorous became the first ocean-going vessel in the morning hours of January 1 to reach the Port of Montreal without a stopover in 2016.

The 2013-built bulker, operated by Vigorous Shipping and Trading, departed the Omani port of Sohar on November 30, 2015.

Featuring a length of 180 meters and a breadth of 30 meters, Vigorous has a deadweight of 33,500 tones.

Operated by the Montreal Port Authority (MPA), the port handled 1.4 million TEUs in 2014, representing 12.5 million tonnes of cargo.

The port also handled 9.2 million tonnes of liquid bulk, and 8.4 million tonnes of dry bulk, including 4 million tonnes of grain.

The total volume of goods handled in 2014 amounted to 30.4 billion tonnes.
