Superyacht for professional sailor

On 25 January 2014 custom-built superyacht Como was launched at the Dutch shipyard of Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, part of yacht builder Feadship. The 46.22 metre long motor yacht is built in commission of sailor Neville Crichton, who was involved during design and construction. Crichton: ”Once the decision to work with Feadship for the first time was made, I followed the construction process closely at all stages.” Owner Crichton is a professional sailor from New Zealand, who has already been familiar with the construction process, as he built several sailing yachts for competition and recently owned a motor yacht from a New Zealand yard.

For the naval architecture and exterior design Feadship and Crichton contracted Dubois Naval Architects, the United Kingdom, who translated the owner’s wishes into a sportive looking yacht which is reflected in, among other things, an extensive use of glass. Next to this, Como has a modern bow, a whaleback sheer and the hull features large windows, and through glazed side panels an open view is created in the stateroom. The interior has been designed by Redman Whitely Dixon, the United Kingdom, which provided Como with many details and a lot of dark timbers.

Como is a twin screw motor yacht with an aluminium hull and superstructure, and has a beam of nine metres and a draught of 2.2 metres. Furthermore, Como has two and a half decks, and to emphasise the streamlined design the wheelhouse has been lightly recessed into the main deck, which also creates a bigger outside deck. At the same time, the outside deck is enclosed with glass, which can be lowered so it can be adjusted to weather and sailing conditions. ”We are delighted to make our mark once again in this size range,” Henk de Vries, director of Feadship comments, ”Feadship is not only about very large superyachts. And, like all our yachts, everything has been totally customised to the client’s individual requirements.”
