Svitzer Bolsters Footprint in Portugal

Maersk’s tug operator Svitzer has signed an agreement with Portuguese company Rebosado to provide services to the company’s towage customers and time charter the Rebosado fleet.

The deal will help expand Svitzer’s multi-port coverage in Portugal to four ports including Lisbon, Sines, Portimão and now Setubal, enlarging its fleet from two to nine tugs.

“By expanding our operations into Setubal Svitzer can now offer comprehensive port cover for the main ports in southern Portugal, thereby providing our customers with a better service. By utilising both the Svitzer and Rebosado fleet we can increase the reliability and efficiency of our Portuguese operation,” Managing Director of Svitzer Europe, Kasper Friis Nilaus, says.

As explained by Manoel Ferreira, founder of Rebosado, the deal builds upon the bilateral cooperation of many years strengthening further the duo’s relationship.

Svitzer added that the deal would increase its controlled fleet in Portugal by seven vessels, bringing the total fleet to 15 tugboats.

The transaction is set to become effective as of September 1, 2017.
