Sweden: White Smoke Founder Calls It A Day

Johan Algell, the founder of LNG bunkering company White Smoke and co-founder of White Smoke Shipping, has decided to call it a day.

“After 4 years of continuous aspiration in relation to the development of White Smoke AB and White Smoke Shipping AB the time has come to call it a day. It has been four fantastic years full of both successes and disappointments, stimulating meetings and hard work,” he said in a statement.

During these years the development of LNG as marine fuel has moved from being an awkward regional buzz of Norwegian origin to become a global development increasingly difficult to review.

“I started White Smoke with the opinion that LNG is the future fuel of shipping and even if the development have been much slower than expected four years ago my original opinion still stands stronger than ever,” Johan stated.

“Fortunately I will not leave the LNG as marine fuel world since I from the 1st of January 2014 will join the Scandinavian LNG supplier Skangass in a position as Business Development Manager – Marine LNG. Skangass who by far is the largest small scale LNG supplier in Scandinavia have quite recently started deliveries to the marine sector delivering among others LNG to Bit Viking and the two new LNG fuelled Fjord Line ferries. It is with great reassurance I join Skangass hoping to contribute to their aim to become the leading supplier of LNG to the marine sector in Northern Europe,” he added.

Due to this development White Smoke Shipping will be wound up and the formal cooperation between White Smoke and Frederiet is already put to an end. All commitments related to White Smoke will be finalized and delivered in line with existing agreements but no new commitments will be accepted.
