Swedish Marine Technology, Clean North Sea Shipping release LNG Short Film

Swedish Marine Technology Forum and Clean North Sea Shipping announced the release of the short film “LNG for shipping – or the chicken and egg story”.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) as marine fuel for shipping has been talked about for quite some time, but actual developments have been rather slow so far. At the European Maritime Day events in May 2012, Swedish Marine Technology Forum and Clean North Sea Shipping hosted a seminar with three other EU-funded projects to invite stakeholders to discuss important topics concerning the introduction of LNG as ship fuel. This film highlights the main points of the discussion.

Swedish Marine Technology Forum supports the maritime industry in Sweden, for example by working toward the development of new and less environmentally damaging products. Participating in the European project Clean North Sea Shipping (CNSS) is supporting this objective.

The CNSS project, including 18 partners from 6 countries, strives to reduce exhaust gas emissions from ships in the North Sea Region. The objective is to improve the environmental and health situation caused by air pollution and greenhouse gases from shipping along the North Sea coast and within North Sea ports and harbours.

CNSS addresses this by creating awareness, sharing knowledge, and convincing influential stakeholders to take action. These stakeholders include regional and European politicians, ports, shipping companies and cargo owners.
