Swift secures Ichthys entertainment contract

Digital entertainment and communications service provider Swift Networks has won a contract to supply a range of services to the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project in Australia.

Under the deal, Swift will provide entertainment, connectivity, maintenance and support services to accommodation and common facilities for the project’s central processing facility and floating production, storage and offloading facility offshore Western Australia.

The services include wireless internet via subsea optical fibre cable, digital entertainment such as movies, pay TV and free-to-air content, and maintenance and support.

Swift CEO, Xavier Kris, said in a statement that the company “is proud to support Inpex for the next 3 years and look forward to helping workers at lchthys to stay in touch with their friends and families, enjoy great entertainment and benefit from an ultra high-speed communications link.”

The US$34 billion Ichthys LNG project recently completed the installation of the complex network of subsea infrastructure and equipment at the Ichthys field located in the Browse Basin, about 220 kilometers offshore Western Australia.

With the completion of the subsea installation, the Ichthys LNG project is ready for the arrival of the central processing facility (CPF) and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities, currently under commissioning in South Korea.

Ichthys LNG project is scheduled to start production by the third quarter of 2017, and is set to have an annual LNG production capacity 8.9 mtpa.

The project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
