TE SubCom Bags Another Upgrade of South-East Asia Japan Cable

Operations & Maintenance

TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company, has signed a contract to perform another network upgrade to the South-East Asia Japan Cable System (SJC) to be completed by the end of November 2015.

The upgrade of the 8,986 km system increases capacity to meet the rising demand for businesses and communications in the Asia-Pacific region.

Originally implemented in 2013 by a global consortium of telecommunications and technology companies, the SJC Cable System links the seven countries or territories of Brunei, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the Philippines, including the option to connect with Thailand. This marks the third upgrade to the system and increases the capacity by 3.6 Tb/s while utilizing 100 Gb/s coherent transmission.

“As the project supplier for both the full system construction and a previous upgrade, we greatly value the SJC Consortium’s confidence in our company, our technology and most importantly, our people,” said Aaron Stucki, president, TE SubCom. “The consortium forecasts a strong need for increased capacity within the Asia-Pacific region and our familiarity with the system will allow us to deliver a seamless network upgrade that will meet the growing demand.”

The SJC consortium is composed of Brunei International Gateway Sendirian Berhad (BIG), China Mobile International Ltd. (CMI), China Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom), China Telecom Global Limited (CTG), Donghwa Telecom Co. Ltd (DHT) (a subsidiary of Chunghwa Telecom, Co., Ltd.), Globe Telecom, Inc., Google, KDDI Corporation, Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin a subsidiary of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk), and TOT Public Co., Ltd. (TOT).
