Norwegian energy data and intelligence company TGS has revealed a new multi-client 2D-cubed project off the coast of India’s Andaman region.

Planned to cover 640,000 square kilometers, this project is expected to provide insights into the siliciclastic shallow and deepwater sediment basins of this region, encompassing four of the OALP-X Bid Round blocks in the Andaman-Nicobar basin.

TGS claims that a recent gas discovery offshore Andaman Island, ongoing deepwater well campaigns, and recent gas discoveries on the Indonesian side of the Andaman basin highlight the significant potential of the region.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President, Multi-Client at TGS, commented: “This India Andaman 2D-cubed product extends our existing regional multi-client footprint and significantly complements our India multi-client data library.

“It offers operators a clearer, more detailed understanding of the subsurface, helping them evaluate prospectivity with greater confidence and reduce uncertainty in frontier exploration.”

According to the company, 2D-cubed is a structurally conformable interpolation technology that transforms 2D seismic data into a regional-scale 3D volume, enabling interpreters to utilize the full capabilities of their 3D interpretation software on 2D datasets.

This is expected to improve geological analysis and facilitate teams’ communication of subsurface plays with greater clarity. TGS aims to equip operators with the information required to accelerate decision-making.

As the demand for hydrocarbons grows, continued investment in exploration is seen as a must; thus, the company is convinced that its dataset supports operators in assessing new opportunities and planning future programs in a more efficient manner.

“Combining our extensive subsurface knowledge and imaging toolkit provides operators in the area with new opportunities to improve drilling outcomes,” highlighted Hajovsky.

This follows shortly after TGS won an extension for current reservoir monitoring and source services on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
