The Netherlands: Hans Schutte Visits Deltares

Hans Schutte Visits Deltares

Hans Schutte, who was appointed Director-General of Higher Education, Vocational Education, Science and Emancipation in September 2012, paid an introductory visit to Deltares on Thursday 18 July.

Mr. Schutte was informed about the Deltares role as an applied research institute and about collaboration with universities and other research institutes. The programme included a visit to the research facilities.

Recently, at the closing ceremony of the World Dredging Congress (WODCON XX) on 7 June in Brussels, a paper from Dr. Thijs van Kessel, a senior morphology and sediment researcher with Deltares, was pronounced the ‘best paper’ of the Congress. The jury praised the originality of his research and the clear presentation of the research data. A total of 120 papers were delivered at the twentieth WODCON.

About Deltares

Deltares is an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure.

“Throughout the world, we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. Our main focus is on deltas, coastal regions and river basins. Managing these densely populated and vulnerable areas is complex, which is why we work closely with governments, businesses, other research institutes and universities at home and abroad,” Deltares stated.

Deltares assists clients implementing coastal infrastructure all over the world.

“With our advanced software and laboratory facilities we are especially well equipped to help clients to optimise a design and to find solutions, identify impacts, reduce costs, and to deal with safety issues and permit applications,” they added.
