The Netherlands: MARIN Enters New Project Named Wind Hybrid Coaster

MARIN Enters New Project Named Wind Hybrid Coaster

MARIN notices that more and more clients seriously consider the use of renewable energy sources for propulsion of commercial cargo vessels. This presents both new challenges and opportunities for ship designers and hydrodynamicists alike.

In this field, MARIN ha just joined the new project “Wind Hybrid Coaster”, which seeks to use wind assisted propulsion on cargo vessels in order to improve fuel efficiency and emissions. The project will enable MARIN to expand and check its tools and knowledge for the verification and optimization of such vessels. The project is conducted within the framework of the MariTIM project, a combined German-Dutch collaboration within the Interreg IV A program and was initiated by Mariko in Leer, Germany.

Separate from the project, however on the same topic, MARIN will organize a Natural Propulsion seminar on January 20. This seminar will focus on the various methods, research techniques, market ideas etc. which can be used for propulsion with renewable energy sources.
