Total awards more time in North Sea to Prosafe flotel

Oil company Total E&P UK has extended the charter of the Prosafe-owned flotel Safe Caledonia currently operating in the North Sea.

The Safe Caledonia semi-submersible accommodation rig is operating at the Elgin-Franklin offshore platform in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Total initially awarded the contract for the accommodation rig in January. The deal was for 134 days plus additional 30 days option to extend with on-site operations planned to start May 15, 2017. The total value of the contract was estimated at $10 million including mobilization, demobilization, and associated services.

According to its Oslo Stock Exchange filing on Tuesday, Prosafe was awarded the 30-day extension option which will keep the Safe Caledonia with Total until late October 2017.

Safe Caledonia was built in 1982 at GVA Kockums yard in Sweden to a Pacesetter design and completed a 20-year life extension in 2012/13.

It has a maximum of 454 beds, nine offices, 67 client workstations, and a telescopic hydraulic gangway.
