Total’s unit Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions signed a deal with Brittany Ferries to supply LNG bunker to the latter’s newbuild vessel.

The LNG-fueled cruise ferry, named Honfleur, will operate between Ouistreham, France and Portsmouth, England from 2019, Total informed, adding that the bunkering services will be provided at the port of Ouistreham.

TMFGS has additionally signed deals with two other French companies to implement a supply chain using ISO containers for LNG bunkering, in order to address the lack of LNG infrastructure served by the Honfleur.

The agreement with Dunkerque LNG covers the construction of an automated truck loading dock where the containers will be filled with LNG while the agreement with Groupe Charles André (CGA) covers the supply and transportation of ISO containers equipped with geolocation trackers and pressure sensors.

Transported by truck from the LNG terminal of Dunkirk to the port of Ouistreham, the containers will be lifted aboard the cruise ferry using onboard cranes, to supply a fixed LNG storage tank at the rear of the superstructure.

To remind, Brittany Ferries ordered the LNG-fueled vessel at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellshaft shipyard in Germany with the order valued at £175 million ($222.8 million).

The 187-meter vessel will have the capacity to carry 1.680 passengers and a 2,600 vehicle capacity. Upon its arrival, the Brittany Ferries’ cruise-ferry Normandie will move east to serve the Portsmouth-Le Havre route.
