TP Ocean probes stage-gate metrics for ocean energy funding

TP Ocean is organizing a webinar that will examine the ways in which stage-gate procedures can be usefully applied in ocean energy sector funding.

Stage-gate procedures and the metrics that underpin them have proven their worth in a range of emerging technology sectors in recent years, according to TP Ocean.

Stage-gate development programs aim to mitigate risk through regular assessment of progress against standardized metrics for success.

This allows investors to compare competing technologies and select the best, lowest risk options for further investment and development.

In the webinar, set for April 6, 2017, TP Ocean will look at the functioning and successes of the Wave Energy Scotland program and investigate the ways in which stage-gate procedures can be usefully applied to the ocean energy sector on a pan-European scale.

Jonathan Hodges, Senior Innovation Engineer at Wave Energy Scotland, will introduce the theory of stage-gate gate mechanisms, and outline how they can be applied to ocean energy, relating his experience with the Wave Energy Scotland’s stage-gate development program.

The webinar is free of charge, and requires registration.

TP Ocean is regarded as an advisory body to the European Commission. It is managed by Ocean Energy Europe and the University of Edinburgh, bringing together around 250 experts from 150 organizations covering the entire European ocean energy sector.
