Training Takes Off at ACE Winch Academy in UK

The ACE Winch Academy has got off to a flying start in 2013, landing a series of important contracts with some of the leading clients.

We have delivered our first ‘competency’ package to a client, having completed the work for Forum Energy Technologies, and we are in the process of developing no less than five competence portfolios for ROV disciplines from ROV Superintendant to ROV Pilot Technician Grade 2“, the Company said in a press release.

Training begins in April and will continue through the summer months for Fugro Survey UK, part of the leading Dutch group that provides global geosciences, survey and geotechnical related services. More than 200 Fugro personnel from their offshore survey operations, as well as onshore support personnel, will undergo a bespoke training programme run by the ACE Winch Academy at the Towie Barclay Works site in Aberdeenshire.

ACE Winches has also developed a training programme for between sixty and a hundred offshore staff from Aberdeen-based KCA Deutag, a leading oil and gas operator. A specially developed training programme in Offshore Winch Operation has been created to enable staff to be trained at their work locations in South East Asia and off the Ivory Coast of West Africa. KCA Deutag employees will receive training over an extended period so as to minimise disruption to the shift work flow.

David Moxey, ACE Winches’ Academy Training Manager said: “We are delighted to be able to announce these important contracts, which recognise the knowledge, skills and expertise we have here at ACE Winches. There is clearly a need for an industry standard to be established in terms of training offshore winch operators, and ACE Winches is the company to deliver that”.
