Troll A Gas Production Drops Due to Safety Issue

Natural gas production from the giant Troll field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea has been reduced by 30 million cubic meters per day, Reuters today reports.

Gassco, the operator of the gas processing plant at Kollsnes, has informed Reuters that there has been a safety issue at the Troll A platform, without going to details. The problem is expected to be fixed today.

Troll Gas comprises the Troll A platform operated by Statoil, the Kollsnes gas processing plant west of Bergen and the pipelines between the platform and the land plant.

Containing about 40 per cent of total gas reserves on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), Troll field represents an essential part of Norway’s offshore gas production.

Statoil last year awarded Aibel a contract worth USD 473 million to conduct upgrades on the Troll A, with aim to secure the gas production from the field until 2063.
