U.S. Government Owned Training Ship EMPIRE STATE Heads Out to Dry Dock for Repairs

The T.S. Empire State is a U.S. Government owned training ship provided to the State University of New York Maritime Academy for the purpose of training young men and women for a career in the U.S. Maritime Industry. It is the intention of the Maritime Administration to conduct a scheduled out of water dry dock of the vessel in September/October 2011 with proposed award by 1 August 2011 to allow for long lead time deliverables.

Planned out of water repairs and inspections will include but not limited to tailshaft surveys, stern tube bearing upgrade, anchor chain and sea valve inspections, underwater hull plate inspection and repairs, and underwater hull paint system repairs. All inspections and repairs will comply with all American Bureau of Shipping and U.S. Coast Guard requirements. Repairs will be accomplished at a Contractors facility.
