U.S. House Approves Bill to Speed Up LNG Exports

The House of Representatives approved H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act, by a bipartisan vote of 266 to 150.

The legislation will help speed up the Department of Energy’s approval of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Increasing U.S. LNG exports will create American jobs while offering U.S. global allies access to a source of secure and affordable energy.

“I’m glad to see H.R. 6 pass with such overwhelming bipartisan support,” said Gardner. “This legislation will provide allies with access to a much needed resource that is abundant in the United States, and it will create tens of thousands of jobs for hardworking Americans here. By passing this legislation, we are sending a clear signal to the world that the United States is serious about becoming a key player in the global energy market. I now urge the Senate to act quickly on this important legislation that can be both a foreign policy and economic policy success story for a nation that could use a lot more of both,” added Gardner.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton said, “With today’s vote, the House sent a strong signal to Russia and the world that the U.S. is serious about entering the global gas market. The Senate should now follow the bipartisan lead, stand up for jobs and allies, and quickly send this bill to the president’s desk. The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act will allow the taking of full advantage of America’s abundant natural gas supplies to boost U.S. economy and increase global energy security.”
