U.S. Senator Landrieu Urges FERC to Approve Cameron LNG

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., the chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, sent a letter to Acting Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Cheryl LaFleur, asking her to expedite approval for Sempra’s Cameron Parish LNG Project.

FERC’s approval is the last hurdle in Cameron LNG construction of a liquefied natural gas export facility.

“I cannot overemphasize how important it is that FERC carryout its regulatory responsibilities regarding Cameron LNG in a timely manner. We must make certain that the regulatory process for approval of LNG facilities such as Cameron LNG does not disadvantage American exporters in the battle for the huge international LNG market. Also at stake are the over 3,000 jobs that will be created by the Cameron Project,” Sen. Landrieu wrote.

In February, Sen. Landrieu wrote to Ernest Moniz, Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE), encouraging swift approval of Cameron LNG’s export license. The following day, after waiting more than two years for approval, Cameron LNG received the DOE’s approval.
