UAE: Lamprell Completes Construction of Jack-Up Rig ‘Muhaiyimat’

Lamprell Completes Construction of Jack-Up Rig 'Muhaiyimat'

Lamprell, a leading provider of diversified engineering and contracting services to the onshore and offshore oil & gas and renewables industry, announces the completion of construction of the jackup rig “Muhaiyimat” and its delivery to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (‘NDC’).

Completion and delivery of the jackup rig, 26 months from initial steel cutting, was marked at a ceremony at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the UAE on 8 November, and the rig departed the facility on 22 November and arrived at its current drilling location in the Umm Al Lulu field in early December.

The Muhaiyimat, with a contract value of USD 159 million signed in July 2010, is the second of six rigs being built for NDC. The rig is of the same design as the first, flagship rig, the Makasib, which was delivered by Lamprell to NDC in July earlier this year. This new rig is also a LeTourneau Super 116E (enhanced), with a self-elevating, 310ft legs design and includes a fully automatic drill-floor with a vertical piperacker. The Muhaiyimat rig has travelled to the Zakum Field, Arabian Gulf to commence drilling.

Commenting on the delivery, Peter Whitbread, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Lamprell, said:

“I am pleased to be marking the completion and delivery of this second build jack-up rig to NDC which comes just three months after we delivered the first new rig. This completion is testament to Lamprell’s capabilities in project execution in the field of new build jack-up rigs, which is a cornerstone of the Lamprell franchise. This project was also based on the close teamwork and strong relationship that Lamprell enjoys with NDC. This relationship, which started in the early days of rig upgrades, has grown to such an extent that NDC is now our biggest customer in the new build jack-up segment.”
