UK gas imports down in Q2

Gas imports in the UK decreased by 10.5 percent to 90.9 TWh in the second quarter of this year, as compared to the same period in 2014.

Imports of liquefied natural gas, which were all sourced from Qatar, were down by nearly 20 percent to 35.4  TWh, according to data by the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).

The UK imported 20 percent more gas from Norway in the second quarter when compared to 2014.

Whilst all Norwegian pipelines saw increases in imports, the Friggs/Vesterled pipeline saw over a 4 fold rise on last year, DECC said.

Imports via Netherlands were significantly down by 78 percent as compared to last year.

According to DECC, this is the lowest total recorded since the 235-kilometer BBL pipeline commenced operations.
