UK: Narec Hosts Workshop on Renewables for STEM Teachers

On Friday 5th July, Narec, in conjunction with Northumberland Education Business Partnership, hosted a renewable energy education workshop for around 30 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subject (STEM) teachers and careers professionals.

Learners were treated to a number of presentations to provide them with a better understanding of the role of Narec as well as the status of the offshore renewable energy sector (wind, wave and tide) in the UK.

The presentations also provided examples of wind and marine projects Narec has been involved in as well as a tour of its world leading, independent blade, electrical and nacelle development and testing facilities for offshore renewable energy technologies.

By organising events like this Narec hopes that it will provide careers professionals with better knowledge, insight and understanding of the renewable energy sector and in turn help to inspire and bring STEM related career opportunities to life in the classroom.

Carole Richards, Work Related Learning Officer, said: “Workshops like this are crucial to improving our own knowledge and development; and enable careers professionals to better guide, advise and inspire our next generation of STEM professionals.

“We are really grateful to Narec for their time and support today, it was an extremely worthwhile and beneficial event. I look forward to working with them again in the future.”
