UK: Stork Technical Services Honoured at Annual REACH Safety Awards

Stork Technical Services celebrated a year of outstanding safety performance at its second Annual REACH Safety Awards (Thursday 24 May).

The awards recognise Stork employees and teams who, throughout 2011, delivered exceptional safety performance in line with the values of the company’s REACH safety initiative.

Around 90 Industry leaders and guests from across the globe attended the ceremony at the Aberdeen Art Gallery, and guest speaker for the evening was behavioural safety expert, Jennifer Deeney, who’s has worked continuously to increase the profile of workplace incidents after her husband tragically died in a workplace accident.

John Andrew Long won Safety Representative of the Year for his proactive safety leadership and communication skills. John also developed a colour code scheme for an open drain system which received positive feedback from a DECC inspector.

Gordon Hamilton, scaffolder, was rewarded for his work reinvigorating the CARE card system on the Clyde platform and improving the asset’s overall safety culture with the Most Promising Individual Award.

The Incident Prevention Award went to supervisor, Phil Wilcox, after his vigilant behaviour prevented a potential incident.

The Safety Leadership award was won by Steven Milligan, specialist cleaning manager, Brian Thain, supervisor and Ian Walker, Supervisor, for leading their team through a range of challenging workscopes and contributing to an incident free year in 2011.

The Best Safety Award recognised two of Stork’s international teams; the BP Pipelines Operations team operating in Azerbaijan and the Shenzi Water Injection team from the USA. The Pipelines team has recorded zero lost time incidents (LTIs) since the contract commenced in 2004, and the Shenzi team were commended for their dedication to safe working practices through REACH and showing exceptional safety awareness when delivering their integrated services.

Stork’s Janice Alpha FPU diving team, contracted by Maersk Oil, won the Best Team of the Year award. Over a period of 160 days in 2011, the team recorded more than 125,000 manhours without a LTI whilst carrying out crucial subsea inspection and construction activity.
