Ukraine - Odessa Port Receives First Capesize Vessel in 2012

On January 7th, on Orthodox Christmas, the Odessa port launched handling of ore carriers of an increased capacity. On this day, to berth № 4 of Quarantine harbor vessel-capesize GREEK WARRIOR (270×43 m, flag of Panama) moored.

Operator – stevedoring company Olimpex Coupe Int. should load onboard the ship 85 thousand tons of iron ore concentrate, with delivery to China. An additional loading of the vessel for full capacity – 145 tons – will be made in the neighboring port and at sea.

According to the deputy Executive Director of Olimpex-Coupe Int.” Sergey Pastukh, in January-December 2011 away from the berth #4 of the port of Odessa in the direction of South-East Asia 10 capesizes with iron ore concentrate departed. This allowed the stevedoring company substantially to increase throughput and finish the year with a score of 2.3 million tons, a record number for all 16 years of the company’s existence.

Note. Olimpex-Coupe Int.” operates production facilities of the handling complex № 7 of Odessa Port (berths № 3-4 on the Quarantine mole) in March 1995. Specialization: transshipment of steel, scrap metal, bulk cargoes of open-air storage. In August 2010 the company launched the grain elevator in the rear berth number 4, a capacity of 1.5 million tons (82.5 tons of simultaneous storage). The total annual turnover of the company amounts to 1.5-2.2 million tons.
