Uniper keen on Wilhelmshaven LNG FSRU project

German utility Uniper is in talks with parties interested in building a liquefied natural gas import terminal in Wilhelmshaven. 

Speaking to Reuters, Uniper’s board member Keith Martin said the company is in discussions with potential partners for the construction of a floating import terminal at the site.

A wide range of interested parties for the FSRU-based facility includes U.S. companies.

The company would be the buyer and distributor of the liquefied natural gas delivered to the facility, however, it would not directly own a share in the project.

Uniper could unveil further information about the project before the end of the quarter. The facility would be close to the company’s storage facilities at Etzel.

Although details and the parties that Uniper has entered talks with have remained undisclosed, Martin told Reuters that the FSRU would have the capacity to handle 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This equates to 7.2 million tons per annum.

The terminal would also be capable of accommodating Q-Max LNG tankers with 265,000-cbm cargo capacity.
