Update: Port Metro Vancouver Operations Resume, Fire Put Out

DP World, operator of Centerm container terminal and the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services managed to extinguish the fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in the shipping container at Centerm just before 8:00 pm on Thursday, Port Metro Vancouver said in an update.

Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services has confirmed there is no further risk to the public.

The material inside was a hazardous organic compound (trichloroisocyanuric acid), which is a possible eye and skin irritant, according to Vancouver Coastal Health.

Port operations have been resumed on the south shore of Burrard Inlet, with the exception of the Centerm Container Terminal, which remains closed, the ports said.
