US Coast Guard Responds on Vessel Collision

A Coast Guard Marine Inspector and an Investigating Officer are responding to a report of a vessel collision resulting in injuries near the Ambrose Pilot Station off of Sandy Hook, N.J., yesterday.

Coast Guard Sector New York command center received the notification around 2 p.m. of a collision involving a New York Pilot boatcrew and a 984-foot cargo container ship.

Four crewmen from the pilot boat sustained injuries; three were minor, and one creman was taken to Sea View Hospital on Staten Island, N.Y for his injuries.

The pilot boat was later docked at the Sandy Hook Pilots facility on Edgewater Street on the Islandw, the US Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
