CCAC Files Temporary Restraining Order against Honeywell

The Camillus Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) filed an application for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to stop the dumping of contaminated dredged materials at Wastebed 13 until adequate safeguards are in place to protect their health and safety.

The group is made up of concerned residents in Camillus. Just last month 52 people filed a lawsuit against Honeywell, the company in charge of cleaning Onondaga Lake. Earlier this week, the group released an independent report written by two scientists.

The report looks back at an EPA study done in 2010, which determined whether a safe amount of chemicals from the dredging process were being released into the air. The scientists found the EPA’s methods to be flawed and inaccurate.

The Department of Environmental Conservation and Honeywell each received a copy of the report, but the next day dredging still started up again for the season.

That report is attached to the application for a temporary restraining order, along with the affidavit of scientist Timothy Minnich.
