USA: Coast Guard Approves Deepwater Horizon Investigation

Investigation of the BP Macondo wellhead and Deepwater Horizon drillship has been approved by the Coast Guard, to determine whether they are the source of the sheen at the site in Gulf of Mexico.

BP and Transocean submitted the plan for investigation after the sheen was reported to the Coast Guard’s National Response Center.

As Nola reports the inspection will see the use of ROVs, and it will begin on Monday.

Capt. Duke Walker, who serves as Federal On-Scene Coordinator for the spill response, in a Coast Guard news release “tasked BP and Transocean with developing a comprehensive array of options for permanent remediation of oil that could still be contained within wreckage in the vicinity of the original Deepwater Horizon incident.”
