USA: Expro to Bring Award Winning Technology at OTC 2010

Leading international oilfield service company Expro will be showcasing some of its latest award-winning technology at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston and demonstrating its ability to offer customers integrated solutions across the lifecycle of their wells.

Expro’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Graeme Coutts said: “It has been a hugely significant year for us. One of Expro’s major strengths is the continued development of new technology to meet our customers’ needs. The industry suffered a major downturn but our highly focused strategy means we have continued to invest and develop many market-leading positions.”

Expro is celebrating after the FlowCAT™ Wireless Safety Valve System won a ‘Spotlight on New Technology’ award. This is a wireless controlled safety valve that can be retrofitted into a well after the tubing retrievable safety valve or control line has failed. Being controllable from surface and of a fail-safe design, FlowCAT provides a smarter, more dependable and safer alternative to a storm choke; a more cost-effective alternative to performing a well workover; and it minimises periods of deferred production.

A model and 3D animation of Expro’s ground-breaking AX-S™ subsea well intervention technology will also be on display, and Expro’s senior AX-S team will be on hand to discuss the technology with booth visitors. AX-S will bring cost-effective, riser-less intervention to deepwater wells in depths up to 10,000ft. Its aim is to deliver a full range of wireline intervention services in deepwater wells at substantially less than the cost of using a rig.

Expro’s industry–first 15,000psi deepwater electro-hydraulic subsea landing string controls will be on display, including the actual deepwater control system deployed in the Gulf of Mexico, where Expro successfully installed and commissioned numerous deepwater wells on the Tahiti and Blind Faith projects.

Expro is one of the largest well testing companies in the world, providing tailor-made well testing solutions to the global oil and gas industry. Through models and 3D animation, Expro will highlight how it offers the complete package of technology and specialist services across the entire well testing process, including drill stem testing / tubing conveyed perforating, data acquisition, fluids sampling & analysis, and flow measurement.

Expro’s clamp-on metering capabilities will also be highlighted. The Expro Meters business offers wellhead surveillance on demand, utilising Expro’s sonar-based metering technology. Through the new non-intrusive flow meters, Expro offers real-time 24/7 surveillance designed for permanent wellhead measurement, as well as zero-impact portable well testing services, anywhere in the world.

Also on display will be a range of technologies from Expro’s Connectors & Measurements business which has seen significant investment in the past year. Following last year’s opening of an impressive new UK headquarters for Expro’s subsea Tronic connectors business, it has further invested in a new custom-built facility in Bomlo, Norway. This site houses the design and manufacture of Expro’s industry-leading Matre subsea sensor product range, which have been installed on global oil and gas projects for more than 20 years.

Mr Coutts said: “Expro is a world-class company with a quality brand, employing some of the industry’s brightest people. We are committed to delivering world-class service, products and expertise which assist our customers from Exploration & Appraisal through to Abandonment. Our display at this year’s OTC will go some way towards demonstrating that we continue to take significant strides in developing and offering the solutions our industry needs through the coming decade and beyond.”
