USA: Petrobras Presents its Technology Strategy at OTC 2011

Business & Finance

The executive manager for Petrobras’ Research Center, Carlos Tadeu Fraga, presented the company’s technology strategy Yesterday (04/05) at an event sponsored by the Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce (BRATECC) on the sidelines of the 2011 OTC.

“We are convinced that our business results are the outcome of our technological capabilities,” said the manager, in an address to oil and gas industry executives.

Regarding technology, Fraga said that Petrobras has focused on three pillars: expanding boundaries, diversifying its matrix, and broadening sustainability. The company invested about $700 million in the expansion of research and development networks in Brazil. “There is no such thing as quality research and development without qualified personnel. In Brazil, we have built world-class facilities for our universities,” said Fraga. “In addition, we are working more closely with our major suppliers in the country. It is a great opportunity.”

The manager provided an overview of the new generation of technologies being developed in Brazil, including laser drilling and subsea processing devices. The new projects are encompassed under the upgrade of the Procap – Technological Development Program for Deepwater Production Systems, launched in 1986 to develop technologies for offshore oil and gas production. “We are looking at increasingly deep exploratory frontiers,” said Fraga. “We have very clear long- and medium-term targets, but more important than the work we are going to do is ‘how’ we will do it,” he said.

During the event, Carlos Tadeu Fraga was appointed Goodwill Ambassador by the City of Houston.
