Video: Float-Out of World's Largest Hull

After 14 months of construction at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard, the Shell Prelude FLNG project continues to create history.

Measuring nearly half a kilometre in length and weighing over 200,000 tonnes, the facility’s enormous hull took to the water for the first time. The video below shows the team in Goeje, South Korea undertaking final preparations and launching of the largest hull ever sent to sea.

Once complete, the 600,000 tonnes facility will be 488 metres long, which is longer than four soccer fields, and will displace six times as much water as the largest aircraft carrier.

It will be moored and hooked up to the undersea infrastructure, around 475 kilometres north-east of Broome, Western Australia.
