VIDEO: Near Miss for Boxship Giants in Valencia

A major collision was avoided in Valencia as four tugs rushed to the scene on Tuesday to separate two boxships HH Johanna and Cosco Europe from clashing due to strong winds that battered the entire country for days.

Namely, Liberia-flagged HH Johanna, which was docked at the Costa wharf, at the port of Valencia, Spain broke off its moorings and started drifting toward Cosco Europe containership, which was docked at terminal Noatum.

Boluda Maritime Corporation dispatched four tugs to the scene so as to break the two ships up as they were dangerously close to each other and thus, avoid damages to the ships’ hulls.

According to Boluda, the strong wind was hampering the towage operation and it took around six hours to bring the giant containership safely back to its moorings

Cosco Europe left Valencia on the same day, whereas HH Johana remains docked in Valencia, as of morning Feb 17.
