VIDEO: Petronas CCS Project

Petronas is studying technically and commercially viable techniques of developing high CO2 fields, with end-to-end CO2 management.

According to the company it’s embarking on one of the largest Carbon Capture and Storage projects in the world.

Petronas will present it’s plans at the upcoming International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this December 10-12, 2014.

Carbon dioxide is one of the most well-known greenhouse gases, and Petronas is looking for ways to store it in the earth instead of releasing it into the atmosphere.

Subsea pipelines are preferred for transporting large amounts of CO2 for offshore storage and for distances up to around 1,000km. Major challenges in transporting CO2 revolves around materials needed for pipelines to support highly corrosion environment.
