VIDEO: Shell’s Prelude FLNG marches ahead

Shell’s Prelude FLNG project construction is in full swing.

After taking the FID in May, 2011 the Prelude FLNG project moved forward at a rapid pace.

Currently under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Island shipyards in South Korea, it will be the largest floating offshore facility once completed.

Once operational, the Prelude FLNG facility will produce at least 5.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquids: 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate (equivalent to 35,000 bbl/d) and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.

After towed to its location some 475 kilometres north-northeast of Broome, Western Australia, Prelude FLNG will remain permanently moored at the location for around 20-25 years before needing to dock for inspection and overhaul.

Shell recently released one of many in the series of videos highlighting major milestones in the construction of the Prelude FLNG, marking the year of the installation of first processing module to the construction of the largest ever turret.
