VIDEO: Ulstein-designed PSV Energy Duchess launched in China

Energy Duchess, the first of two platform supply vessels (PSV) that is being built for Golden Energy Offshore, a Norway-based shipowner and operator of offshore service vessels, was launched on October 27, 2015 at the ROC yard in China.

Energy Duchess and its sister vessel are scheduled for deliveries in 2016. They are based on the PX121 design from Ulstein, and customised with one extra accommodation deck.

The vessels have an overall length of 83.4 metres and a beam of 18 metres and a deadweight (dwt) of 4,000 tonnes. They are equipped with solutions for DP2 (dynamic positioning), oil recovery and fire-fighting.

The ships are recognised as medium-sized PSVs and have a cargo deck of approximately 850 square meters and under-deck capacities well suited for the intended operations. They can accommodate up to 30 persons.

In addition, the vessels will be prepared for the installation of an AHC Crane with up to 67 tonnes capacity and an ROV mezzanine deck, which means they can be configured for IMR (Inspection, Maintenance, Repair), ROV support, trenching and light subsea construction work.

At the announcement of the design contract in 2014, Per Ivar Fagervoll, CEO in Golden Energy Offshore, said: “Golden Energy Offshore is a fully integrated ship owning company located in Ålesund, Norway, with all management functions in-house. We look forward to work through and complete this project together with the yard and Ulstein.”

“In addition to design, Ulstein also delivers a significant package including equipment, supervision, commissioning and testing, which has been instrumental and a condition for us to enter into this series of vessels. There is also another Norwegian equipment on-board including the accommodation interior package, delivered in accordance with Norwegian standards.”
