Walk-to-Work vessel named in The Netherlands

The ‘Walk-to-Work’ vessel Kroonborg was yesterday christened in the port of Delfzijl, The Netherlands.

The vessel will work for NAM— a Dutch exploration and production firm formally known as Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij BV— to support the company’s offshore maintenance activities at offshore production platforms in the Dutch sector North Sea. The vessel is expected to stay on contract with NAM for a decade.

Kroonborg offers accommodation facilities for up to 60 people. Using a motion compensated offshore access system, the vessel’s crew can literally walk to work.

Also, a motion compensated crane, using a similar technique, can transfer heavy materials of up to 20 tonnes at an outreach of 10 meters.

The vessel, owned by Royal Wagenborg, was built by Royal Niestern Sander shipyard.

“The construction and deployment of Kroonborg is an economic boost for the North of the Netherlands and shows the innovative character of the maritime sector in this region,” Royal Wagenborg said in a statement.
