Wärtsilä wins dual-fuel power plant order

Wärtsilä of Finland has won a contract to supply a 100 MW dual-fuel plant to Albares Renovables in Argentina.

Under the order, Wärtsilä will supply six 50 DF dual-fuel engines running on gas and heavy fuel oil, the company said in its statement on Tuesday.

The contract is one of five it has recently been awarded in Argentina.

Wärtsilä’s scope of supply for the project with Albares Renovables has, after negotiations, been extended from equipment delivery only to a full turn-key project. The value of the order is now estimated to be €72 million (approx. US$80.4 million).

The plant is expected to be delivered in early 2017 and operational in August the same year, Wärtsilä said.

Wärtsilä’s dual-fuel technology was chosen due to the fact that natural gas is not available for the power market in Argentina during the whole year. It will enable the facility to run on heavy fuel oil for the part of the year.
