Wartsila wins LNG power plant deal in El Salvador

Finnish engine maker Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply a Flexicycle power plant to Energía del Pacífico in Acajutla, El Salvador.

It will be the largest power plant in El Salvador, and the first in Central America to be fired by LNG-based natural gas, Wärtsilä said.

The 378 MW power plant will comprise nineteen Wärtsilä 50SG engines and a combined cycle steam turbine, feeding electricity to the national grid.

The order is valued at approximately EUR 240 million, and the plant completion is scheduled for 2018.
