Yamal LNG module deliveries continuing despite cold snap

Dutch heavy lift company Mammoet said it is continuing with the delivery of modules for the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic despite bone-freezing cold and snowstorms that hit Russia and Europe lately.

“Our team in Yamal is continuing to transport huge modules, despite minus 33°c temperatures, ensuring the extreme conditions do not affect the progress of this vast LNG construction project,” Mammoet said in a brief statement through its social media channels.

Mammoet has been previously contracted for moving 150 modules and over 1200 smaller items from heavy transport ships in the port of Sabetta located in Russia’s Yamal peninsula to the location of the 16.5 mtpa LNG export plant.

The $27 billion Yamal LNG project is on track to ship its first cargo of LNG by the end of next year, according to Novatek’s CEO Leonid Mikhelson.

Yamal LNG unlocks access to the vast gas resources of the Russian Arctic, while also opening a new LNG sea transport route to Asia using ice-class LNG carriers.

Almost all of the volumes from the Yamal LNG project have already been contracted.

Shareholders in the Yamal LNG project are Novatek, as the operator with a 50.1 percent stake, CNPC and Total with a 20 percent stake each and China’s Silk Road Fund with a 9.9 percent stake.
