Yantar Shipyard Delivers INS Teg to Indian Navy

On April 27th at the solemn ceremony Shipyard Yantar (member of United Shipbuilding Corporation ) has handed over the Frigate Teg («Sabre») to the Indian Navy. Delivery- Acceptance Act was signed by the Head of Naval Department of JSC Rosoboronexport Oleg Azizov and the Commanding Officer of Indian crew Capt. Rakesh Kumar Dahiya. Right after the Russian flag, under which the ship successfully passed all trials in Baltic sea, was lowered and flag of the Republic of India was hoisted the Teg was added to the armory of Indian Navy.

The ceremony of the Frigate handing over was visited by high-ranking representatives of Embassy of India in Moscow and Joint Headquarters of Indian Navy as well as management of Federal Agency on military technical cooperation of RF, JSC Rosoboronexport, JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation and JSC Severnoye Design Bureau, developed design of the Frigate. Among audience of the ceremony were employees of Shipyard Yantar, Indian crew of the ship and Russian crew of the Division of Ships under Construction and Repair of the Baltic fleet, participated in State and Sea trials of the Frigate.

After solemn part of the ceremony which took part on the helideck of the Teg high-ranked guests conducted press-conference. Questions of pressmen were answered by: from Indian side – Vise -Admiral Krishnan Nair Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Naval Command of Indian Navy; Vise-Admiral N.K. Nadella, Head of Main Directorate of production and procurement of war ships of Joint Headquarters, Indian Navy; his assistant, Rear Admiral Kapil Gupta; Commodore Surey Kumar Grival, Naval Attache Embassy of India, Moscow and Captain Rakesh Kumar Dahiya, Commanding Officer of Indian Naval Ship the «Teg»; from Russian side: Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov, Commander-in-Chief of the Baltic Fleet and Roman Trotsenko, President of JSC «United Shipbuilding Corporation» .

Frigate the Teg project 11356 of JSC Severnoy Design Bureau was built at Shipyard Yantar in accordance with the Contract, concluded in 2006, The Contract provides construction of three ships of this project. The Teg was laid down in July of 2007, correspondency, half a year and a year later the following two frigates -the Tarkash («Quiver») and the Trikand («Bow») were laid down. As on today the Tarkash is being prepared for sea trials, the Trikand is in the closing stages of outfitting works. Their delivery is scheduled in autumn 2012 and spring 2013 correspondingly.

Frigates of project 11356 being constructed at Shipyard Yantar differ from their sister ships built by Baltiysky Zavod, by installed supersonic missile complex EpaMoc developed jointly by Indian and Russian sides. Length of Frigate is 125 meters, width- 15 meters, displacement – 4 thousand ton, crew amounts to 253 persons.

Value of contract for construction of three Frigates is about 1,5 milliard Dollars USA. This great export order commemorates the new stage of Shipyard Yantar development. In 2010 shipyard started building of six frigates project 11356 for Russian Navy.
