Zhejiang Hands Over ‘Sea Spider’ to Seatankers Group

On 27 January 2014, three weeks after the last delivery in the ‘Seatankers twelve’ series, Zhejiang delivered the seventh platform supply ship, ‘Sea Spider’, to the Seatankers Group. All twelve PSVs are designed by ULSTEIN.

Zhejiang Hands Over 'Sea Spider' to Seatankers Group

In 2012, Sinopacific’s Zhejiang yard in Ningbo, China, entered into a contract with ULSTEIN for the delivery of twelve design packages for platform support vessels of the PX105 design for Seatankers Group. The first delivery was in Q1 2013.

The PX105 designed vessels are considered as large PSVs. This design is one of the most attractive PSV designs from ULSTEIN due to the combination of flexibility and large size.

The contract incorporates a comprehensive equipment package including design, engineering and equipment supplied by ULSTEIN. The vessels are 88.9 metres long and 19 metres in the beam. They are equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system and a comprehensive electrical package delivered by Ulstein Power & Control. They are fitted with Azipull 100 propellers, and will be able to reach speeds of 15.5 knots. The loading deck area is in excess of 1,000 m2 and the vessels each have a dead weight of 4,500 tonnes. They comply with the DNV requirements of the Clean and Clean Design standards.

All vessels are designed with the patented X-BOW® hull line design. Such vessels have low vibration levels, resulting in increased comfort, and no speed loss due to the elimination of bow wave impact. The vessels can maintain higher speed even in foul weather, and the operational window is increased.

At the time of contract signing, Seatankers Group was a new customer for ULSTEIN, while there was an established relation with Sinopacific, which several times previously had entered into contracts for ULSTEIN’s design packages. ULSTEIN has a local support team at Zhejiang that is involved in the completion of the vessels. All projects are supervised by the Ulstein Design & Solutions’ project department in Norway.
