SWS Holds Block Construction Clarification for Its First VLGC

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) held on August 20 the Block Construction Clarification of Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC). It is the first time for SWS to undertake the construction of a VLGC, marking a big step towards the product diversification for SWS.

During the meeting, the Design & Research (R & D) Institute and the relevant departments of Shanghai Jiangnan Changxin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (SCH) exchanged instructions and clarifications on the technology to be employed and potential difficulties in project execution, followed by the project plan and division of work, hull construction plan, accuracy control plan and key points, quality inspection, along with the management and experience in processing. The Assembly Dept. (SWS) and SLO respectively delivered speeches on the block construction of the VLGC.

The VLGC, to be built by SWS, is a full cooling gas carrier equipped with circumnavigation, single decked (the deck sunk at aft.), featuring a bulbous bow, single rudder and single propeller, low-speed diesel engine.

When it comes to the very construction, low temperature steel welding will be the most challenging task, however it is essential. In that respect, SWS has organized for the relevant staff to participate in training on low temperature steel welding.
