Companies Team Up to Inspect Anchors at Bimep Site

Technicians of Demoliciones Submarinas, IHCantabria and UnderOceans worked together on the inspection of the anchorage systems of various experimental and beacon buoys in the Bimep test site.

This site, located in Armintza (Vizcaya) and owned by the Basque Government, is an infrastructure designed to test marine energy devices in the open seas. IHCantabria and Bimep have formed the TRL + consortium for the development of the marine energy industry.

For IHCantabria, this underwater exploration supposed a new own record in the inspection of anchorage systems linked to marine energies, since it exceeded 95 meters of depth. For that purpose, a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) was driven by IHCantabria technicians. The ROV is equipped with a camcorder, halogen spotlights, depth gauge, positioning system and 4 propellers that give it a great mobility.

On the part of Demoliciones Submarinas and UnderOceans, the team was composed of 5 deep depth diver specialists and a suitable boat of 15 meters length, with its crew, already expert in maneuvers in BIMEP.

The inspection was reported a success, providing all the required information regarding the state of the anchorage systems and the seabed around the devices.
