ABS Receives Safety and Quality Award

ABS, a leading provider of global maritime classification services, has received the Safety and Quality Award at the 10th Anniversary of the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards.

The award recognizes ABS’ contribution to promoting safety, judged on key indicators including investment in safety training, social and environmental responsibility and its contribution and commitment to the development of the maritime sector across the region.

Of the leading classification societies, ABS has the largest regional presence with offices in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, and nearly 100 marine and offshore surveyors and engineers.

ABS Regional Vice President, Middle East Joe Brincat says, “Safety is at the center of everything we do as a classification society. We are honored to have been recognized by Seatrade for our contribution to safety and quality, both in our work with clients and in our own internal processes.

ABS undertakes a broad range of safety-related initiatives. The class society continues to build its Mariner Safety Center, a project that compiles and analyzes industry ‘close call’ and ‘near miss’ incidents in order to produce guidance for the mitigation of potential human error in the maritime environment.

ABS internal safety programs include the Always Be Safe employee awareness campaign and the ‘Take 5’ safety initiative which provides employees practical safety techniques and procedures to incorporate in their work.

The award is the third made to ABS in the Middle East this year. The organization was named Best Class Society at the Lloyd’s List Middle East Awards and at the Marine BizTV Annual International Maritime Awards.
